Which is better for SEO : Left or Right Sidebar Links ?

Hey,

With a left sidebar: The robot crawls the header first, then the left sidebar, then the main content body.
With a right sidebar: The robot crawls the header first, then the main content body, then the right sidebar.

I see a benefit of having the links above the content, because they are given more internal linking weight (at least I think). However, the risk is that it pushes the content further down the page, so it may devalue the page. I don't think the links would pass as much value when placed at the total bottom of the page.
