It's three years and one day since the Philadelphia Flyers traded a first-round pick to the Nashville Predators for forward Scott Hartnell(notes) and coveted puck-moving defenseman Kimmo Timonen(notes); both were going to be unrestricted free agents that summer.
It was a pick that previously belonged to Nashville, but had been included in their Feb. 2007 trade with the Flyers for Peter Forsberg(notes); a trade that also sent blue-chip defenseman Ryan Parent(notes) to Philadelphia.
Why the history lesson? Because it's repeated today, in a roundabout way: The Flyers have traded Parent, a restricted free agent, back to Nashville, in exchange for coveted puck-moving defenseman and the rights to potential unrestricted free agent Dan Hamhuis(notes), 27. Philly acquired a conditional draft pick in the deal as well.
Interesting to note that this was the trade rumored at the deadline between the two teams, as GM Paul Holmgren and the Flyers obviously had Hamhuis on their wish list.
